LAWN BOWLING IS FUN! GIVE IT A TRY!
If you have ever wondered what lawn bowling is all about, the Oakmont Lawn Bowling Club has many opportunities for you to get involved. We welcome new members, returning members, those of you who have physical limitations, and those who just are a bit short on time.
What is Lawn Bowling?
Lawn bowling is a bit like bocce, but is played on grass. It’s also like curling without the ice—or bowling without the pins . . . you get the idea. We have a state of the art bowling green here in Oakmont, located right next to the Central Activities Center (CAC).
How do I try it?
* We bowl with "bowls", not "balls". Bowls are hard, round objects with a built-in bias which means they roll in a curved line, which is really kinda cool because it means that you can go AROUND bowls in front of you!
We’ll show you the basics and give you a chance to bowl a bit to get the hang of it and see what you think. We have many bowls and other equipment you can use for free.
Note: Please wear smooth-soled shoes.
When can I bowl?
We bowl every day of the week except Sundays. In the cooler months, we start bowling at 1:30 pm. When the weather gets nice (first Monday in May) we switch over to morning play and start at 9:30 am.
Do I need to wear white clothes?
Except for tournaments, no, the only requirement is that you wear flat-soled shoes or sneakers to protect the green.
What else is going on?
Check our Coming Events page for a schedule of activities on the 2020 calendar, from daily play to social activities to tournaments. We are doing more than just bowling; there are parties at the green and the CAC patio. One of our favorites is called After Fives starting at 5:00 with a little fun bowling, a chance to win a bottle of wine and then a potluck supper on the patio.
So c’mon and give it a try. Watch the Oakmont News or check out our website for more details. See ya on the green!
